A 4-month-old infant passed away at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Assam due to H1N1 virus infection, marking the second swine flu-related death in the state within three days. Another individual infected with the virus is currently receiving treatment at SMCH, as per officials.

Health authorities reported that the infant, from Uttar Krishnapur area in Cachar district, was admitted on April 12.

According to a senior doctor at SMCH, the victim's family members brought him in a critical condition.

A senior doctor mentioned, "Initially, the kid was responding well to the treatment, but in the last week of April, his health started deteriorating. We conducted an RT-PCR test, which confirmed he tested positive for the H1N1 virus."

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, the principal of SMCH, stated, "He was suffering from other issues, and the H1N1 virus exacerbated his condition."

He stated, "At present, one patient is admitted to SMCH, two persons infected with the H1N1 virus have been cured, and one infant has died. We have informed all frontline workers to maintain strict vigilance across the district."
